What is the Open Electricity Market (OEM)?

  • The OEM is an initiative by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to enable households and businesses to buy electricity from a retailer with a price plan that best meet their needs.
  • The launch of the OEM will provide consumers with more choices and flexibility in their electricity purchase.
  • Consumers stand to benefit from the OEM from competitive price plans, enhanced customer service standards and innovative promotions from electricity retailers.
  • With the soft launch of the OEM from 1 April 2018, households and businesses in Jurong whose premises have postal codes starting with 60, 61, 62, 63 or 64 can choose who they wish to buy electricity from.
  • In the second half of 2018, the OEM will be extended to the rest of Singapore, allowing the remaining 1.3 million accounts (mainly households) to choose the retailer they wish to buy electricity from.
  • Consumers who wish to continue buying electricity from SP Group at the regulated tariff can choose to do so.
  • Households will continue to receive the same reliable electricity supply regardless of the electricity retailer you choose to buy electricity from. SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid and deliver electricity to everyone.
