What is the Open Electricity Market (OEM)?

  • The OEM is an initiative by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) to enable households and businesses to buy electricity from a retailer with a price plan that best meet their needs.
  • The launch of the OEM will provide consumers with more choices and flexibility in their electricity purchase.
  • Consumers stand to benefit from the OEM from competitive price plans and innovative offers from electricity retailers.
  • With the soft launch of the OEM from 1 April 2018, households and businesses in Jurong whose premises have postal codes starting with 60, 61, 62, 63 or 64 can choose who they wish to buy electricity from.
  • Starting 1 November 2018, the nationwide launch of the OEM will be rolled out progressively in four geographical zones.

    ^ Consumers in Jurong (postal codes 60-64) have been able to buy electricity from a retailer since 1 April 2018.

  • It is not compulsory for you to switch and there is no deadline to switch. You may continue to buy electricity from SP Group at the regulated tariff.
  • Households will continue to receive the same reliable electricity supply regardless of the electricity retailer you choose to buy electricity from. SP Group will continue to operate the national power grid and deliver electricity to everyone.
